An AI Commercial Is Still a Production
AI changes how images can be created, but it does not remove the need for strategy, direction, editing or approvals. A successful commercial still begins with a business objective and ends with a finished asset that works in a real media plan. The difference is that visual exploration and iteration can happen earlier and in different ways.
Understanding the stages helps Singapore marketing teams set realistic expectations and know where their decisions matter most.
1. Campaign Definition
Before anyone discusses tools, define the audience, offer, single-minded message and desired action. Confirm where the commercial will run, how long it needs to be and which markets or languages it must support.
This stage also identifies the measurable constraint. The project may need a visual world that is difficult to film, more variations from one idea or a faster route to regional versions. AI should solve a production problem, not become the campaign proposition by default.
2. Creative Concept and Treatment
The production team turns the objective into one or more narrative routes. A treatment explains the idea, tone, visual language, sound and intended audience response.
At this point, representative AI frames can make an unfamiliar concept tangible. These are development assets, not finished shots. Approve the direction and brand fit before asking for a complete sequence.
3. Visual Development and Storyboard
The chosen concept becomes a timed structure. The team defines characters, environments, product moments, camera language and transitions. Reference sets and style frames are built so everyone shares the same visual target.
For an AI commercial production workflow, this stage also establishes continuity rules: wardrobe, lighting, colour, geography and the features that must remain consistent from shot to shot.
4. Asset Production
Shots may be generated, filmed, animated or combined. Each method should follow the requirement. A precise product demonstration may be captured traditionally, while an impossible environment is created with AI and integrated in post.
Review sequences in context rather than approving isolated beautiful frames. Motion, performance and continuity determine whether the commercial feels intentional.
5. Edit, Sound and Finishing
The editor shapes pace and message hierarchy. Music, voice, sound design, graphics, colour and compositing turn separate assets into one film. This is where the work becomes a commercial rather than a collection of visual tests.
Approve the master narrative before multiplying cutdowns. Late structural changes become more expensive once every ratio and language version exists.
6. Delivery and Learning
Export requirements should match the media plan: durations, aspect ratios, safe areas, captions, end cards and file specifications. Archive approved source assets and document any restrictions on reuse.
After launch, review retention, click or conversion data against the original objective. Those findings should inform the next creative cycle, not simply be attached to a report.
Production Discipline Makes AI Useful
The best AI commercial workflows are clear about what is strategic, what is experimental and what must be exact. When each stage has an owner and an approval goal, the technology expands the idea without making delivery unpredictable.
